AIARE Level 1 Avalanche course Introduces students to avalanches, avalanche terrain, decision making, planning and rescue techniques.
This course is the first in the AIARE sequence and is for anyone that travels in avalanche terrain.
*There are no pre-req’s for the course.
Course is led by certified AMGA Splitboard Guide John Lemnotis.
John brings both training and certification with the AMGA and hundreds on days in the Utah backcountry to the table. He is an excellent teacher and guide.
John is also an AMGA apprentice rock and alpine guide!
Classroom sessions will be held at Blue Ice headquarters in Sugar House.
This provides us a quality classroom setting and quick access to the Cottonwood Canyons where we will be doing field work. Specific locations are dependent on snowpack and wether at time of the course.
We structure our AIARE 1 so there is field work every day of the course!
Cost includes student manual, companion rescue card, AIARE field book.
It is highly recommended that participants have their own gear.
RRA can provide beacon, shovel, probe and pack for those that do not have their own equipment!
