Course Details

Location: Mazama, WA
This course is limited to 8 students. The application process will close on Dec 15, 2019.

Organized through a longstanding partnership with North Cascade Heli and North Cascades Mountain Guides, this course will be based out of Mazama’s Freestone Inn and NCH’s Barron Yurt. The Freestone Inn’s classroom is proximal to the heli base and the surrounding backcountry. The yurt is accessed via helicopter for a portion of the course. Additional field access will be on foot and on provided snowmobiles.

This course is designed to take the PRO 2 course learning objectives and apply them in a unique setting that highlights mechanized skiing operations. The course’s itinerary and logistics are customized for this venue. Two of AIARE’s long-time professional instructors, Margaret Wheeler and Larry Goldie will teach the course and sharing their experiences with the participants. Limited to just 8 seats, this is a great opportunity to be part of a small group learning environment and take full advantage of the low student to instructor ratio.

Lodging and food will be included for the three nights spent at the yurt (Jan 30, 31, and Feb 1). Lodging and food for the remaining two nights (Jan 28, 29) will be student responsibility. The course will end by 530pm on Feb 2. Students are encouraged to stay the night in Mazama or other nearby locations to avoid having to leave early. There are several lodging options and grocery stores in the Mazama area. Best of all, the course tuition has been reduced to $2,900/student through a generous scholarship donation aimed at serving the evolving needs of mechanized ski guides.
