Much of Silas’ life - both personal and professional - is spent seeking out high and wild places. He is an internationally licensed IFMGA mountain guide, owner of Alpine Logic, LLC, and teaches professional guide training courses for the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA).
While based in the Gunks of New York, Silas is an alpine climber at heart and spends much of the year in the greater mountain ranges across the US and abroad. Summers find him guiding alpine peaks in Chamonix and the Tetons, and rock climbing in the Italian Dolomites. He spends winters in the Catskills, Adirondacks and White Mountains of the northeast, where he guides ice climbing, ski mountaineering, and teaches avalanche education courses. Fall and spring are blend of destination trips and an annual pilgrimage to Alaska where Silas has put up significant first ascents. Katahdin, Maine’s highest point and home to the biggest alpine terrain in the northeast, keeps Silas returning to Maine each year.
While most of his time is spent climbing, skiing or en route to one of the two, Silas does manage to find time for a few miles on his motorcycle and to listen to each and every one of his rock star wife’s latest hits.
