Biography:

Mark began climbing and skiing in the Elk Mountains outside Aspen, Colorado as a teenager. Quickly addicted and always eager, he perfected the theory that “school should never get in the way of your education”—expeditions to South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia became part of his high school curriculum. Mark began guiding rock and alpine climbs in the summer and teaching avalanche education and ski mountaineering courses in the winter while completing a Geography degree from the University of Colorado. Since then, the days without either climbing shoes or ski boots on have been few and far between—Mark works as a ski patroller and avalanche educator at Aspen/Snowmass in the winter and a full-time mountain guide in the summer. He guides for Exum Mountain Guides in Grand Teton National Park and Rainier Mountaineering, Inc. Mark also manages climbing, canyoneering, and outdoor education programs for several organizations, including the Aspen School District and The Buddy Program. Mark is an IFMGA/AMGA certified Mountain Guide, as well as an AIARE-qualified Level One and Level Two Avalanche Education Course Leader.
