Biography:

Darran Wells grew up in Houston, Texas racing mountainbikes with his father. After graduating from the University of Houston (1993) with a BA in Philosophy and completing two tours with the US Peace Corps in Central Africa, he thought he might become a nonfiction travel writer. Wells’ first book was published in 2004; but instead of a travelogue, NOLS Wilderness Navigation helps adventurers navigate through the backcountry.
As a NOLS Instructor (1999-), Wells teaches mountaineering, caving, canyoneering, rock climbing and whitewater canoeing, and custom leadership trainings.
Darran completed a Masters of Arts program in Adventure Education at Prescott College in 2007. He now runs the Outdoor Education and Leadership degree program at Central Wyoming College in Lander, WY and occasionally still finds time to work for NOLS Professional Training during the summer.
CWC offers outdoor skills courses ranging from Backcountry Skiing and Snowboarding to Outdoor Rockclimbing and Mountainbiking.
CWC maintains a close partnership with both NOLS and the Jackson Hole Outdoor Leadership Institute.
