Pikes Peak Alpine School has provided avalanche training in the Colorado since 1989. Our guides are AIARE Instructors and AMGA Apprentice Ski Guides at a minimum and all have the passion and credentials for teaching. This is a 24 hours course.
Itinerary: 3-Days (24 hours). Field and classroom on Monarch Pass with classroom sessions at the Monarch Lodge (The Monarch Lodge is just 10 minutes from field locations and 20 minutes from Salida, CO). 8am-4pm each day. Participants can stay at the Monarch Lodge for an additional fee. Please inquire when booking with us.
10% discount on this course and AIARE 2 if booked and taken together.
Included: AIARE Field Book, Student Resources, use of Ortovox transceiver, probe and shovel.
Optional Monarch Lodge room and board. 2 nights (double occupancy) and 2 breakfasts/dinners, $160/student. $240 if taken with AIARE rescue (3 nights)
Not Included: Transportation, accommodations, food, and guide gratuity.
Required gear: Alpine Touring Ski/Splitboard setup or snowshoes. Full winter backcountry gear. See our gear list on this page.
Prerequisites: Students must be able to travel in avalanche terrain and bring appropriate equipment for traveling on snow. AIARE 1 and AIARE Avalanche Rescue have other no prerequisites and either can be taken first or without the other.
