Course Details

Pikes Peak Alpine School has provided avalanche training in the Colorado since 1989. Our guides are AIARE Instructors and AMGA Apprentice Ski Guides at a minimum and all have the passion and credentials for teaching. Our course starts in a classroom setting, then moves to an alpine zone on Pikes Peak for the field session. This is a 24 hours course.

Itinerary:  4-Days (24 hours). Thursday and Friday evening classroom, 5:30-9pm at Colorado College,  Saturday and Sunday field and classroom on Pikes Peak or Hoosier Pass 8am-5pm

We may use Hoosier Pass or Monarch Pass for field locations if conditions on Pikes don’t allow.

Included:  AIARE Field Book, Student Resources, use of Ortovox transceiver, probe and shovel.

Not Included: Transportation, accommodations, food, and guide gratuity.

Required gear: Alpine Touring Ski/Splitboard setup or snowshoes. Full winter backcountry gear. See our gear list on this page.

Prerequisites: Students must be able to travel in avalanche terrain and bring appropriate equipment for traveling on snow.  AIARE 1 and AIARE Avalanche Rescue have other no prerequisites and either can be taken first or without the other.
