1-day stand alone course that is intended to be retaken on a regular basis in order to stay current with best practices in avalanche rescue techniques and equipment. The course is suitable for both new and return participants as each course will cover both the current thinking for basic companion rescue as well as more advanced scenarios. All students will be shown systems for additional practice on their own in between courses.
Each participant will receive a rescue card at the end of the course and will be given individual professional coaching.
Course takes place near Stevens Pass. Course requires some form of "floatation" such as AT Skis, Splitboard, or Snowshoes. Rental Skis, Snowshoes, Beacon, Shovel, &/or Probes avaialble.
This course is a prerequisite for participation in AIARE Level 2 Course and can be taken before or after the AIARE Level 1 Course. In order to facilitate completion of this prerequisite, the AIARE Avalanche Rescue Course is always offered the day prior to all of our AIARE Level 2 programs. Course hours are generally from 8 am to 4 PM.
Course instructors are all on NMS staff and are drawn from our pool of IFMGA Guides, AMGA Certified Ski Guides, DOT Avalanche Workers, NWAC observers, Ski Patrollers, and Weather Forecasters.
