Improve your decision making skills in the backcountry with the Northwest Mountain School. Course covers decision making, trip planning, companion rescue skills, and terrain selection.
We have delivered these courses for over 15 years in the Pacific Northwest with over 1000 graduates of our AIARE Level 1 course. Our instructor team is a mixture of IFMGA Guides, WA DOT Avalanche workers, AMGA ski guides, ski area avalanche forecasters, and we have a meteorologist in our instructor team. Instructor experience ranges from ski guiding in the PNW, Alaska and the alps all trained by specifically to deliver recreational avalanche courses. Classroom work takes place on 2 consecutive evenings in Seattle (6-9 PM) and provides the foundation for all field activities. Course can be taken on touring skis, split board, or snowshoes. Students are generally grouped with others on compatible floatation. Field activities take place on 2 days in the Alpental backcountry.
